TREPHINA SULTAN THANGUWA
Trephina Sultan Thanguwa
Trephina Sultan Thanguwa was born in 1969 and grew up at Watarrka, Kings Canyon, West of Alice Springs. She comes from a family of established artists and as a child, she watched them paint and copied them by painting in the dirt with a stick. Trephina’s dot artwork tells her ancestor’s stories she was taught by her Elders. Trephina is highly skilled in fine art and an established contemporary artist.
Trephina’s first language is Luritja and has worked as an interpreter in the Northern Territory. She also was a significant contributor to the Luritja-English Dictionary. Trephina currently lives in Darwin on Larrakia Country and works at the Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation.
